John McDermott

John McDermott is a Nationally Accredited Mediator, a Court appointed Arbitrator and a member of the Arbitration Liaison Committee of the Law Society of NSW. His recent appointments include the Federal Court Native Title Mediation Panel and the Westpac Industrial Relations Arbitration Panel.

John’s involvement in the preparation of family property settlements and pre marriage contracts has recently led to his being appointed as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner specializing in mediating disputes involving:

  • Young children.
  • Marital property.

Some disputes require mediation of both issues. Some involve one only but the two are often interrelated.

Apart from the training as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, John was one of the first solicitors in New South Wales appointed by the Law Society as an Accredited Property Specialist and as an Accredited Business Specialist. Both of these different qualifications are frequently highly relevant to property disputes in particular. They assist in taking a broad based common sense approach.
